Are You Afraid of Failure? Get Over It!

There are some defeats more triumphant than victories. – Michel de Montaigne

It is known fact that we do not fear obstacles, limits or hard work; what we fear the most is the failure.

How many times have you stopped trying, fearing that you will fail? Abandoned that business venture midway, stopped writing that book (which is now a distant memory), and quit football (or any other sport)?

You prepare lengthy business plans just to identify the feasibility of any project. Because you want to gauge the chances of failure. And when you fear even as little as 10% chance of failure, you scrap the idea completely.

Failing is inevitable, It is impossible to live without failing at something. I am yet to find a single person who has achieved everything without tasting a bit of setback.

Yes, that is the word I use for failing, setback. Because your failure is not permanent till you stop trying. It is just a setback in achieving your dreams.

Let me tell you why?

Do you know the sixteenth president of the United States, Abraham Lincoln experienced repeated defeat in Presidential Elections. He lost presidential elections 8 times before becoming one of the greatest presidents in the history of the US.

The important thing is he believed and continued with his efforts. His hope and perseverance made him a larger than life personality.

There is one more reason why I think we have misunderstood the word, failure.

There are so many wonderful inventions which are made by mistake. There is a very thin line between success and absolute failure. Post-it notes, corn flakes, and pacemakers are all byproducts of failed inventions.

Let me ask you one question, do you think Columbus was a failure?

Columbus failed in discovering India, didn’t he? He set sail in search of India. But he failed in the task. Correct?

No, my friends, he discovered a new land – America. And his failure was so grand that he is still celebrated.

Well, in my opinion, your success or victories don’t define you, your failures do. Your failures give you experience, and those experiences shape you; your future. It makes you a better person.

Pain is temporary. Eventually, it will subside and you will even forget that it existed. But If you quit now; your surrender will be forever with you.

You have that light within yourself to shine and achieve the greatest things, things that you dreamed of. Only… Only if you have the courage to take that leap.

Belief. Courage. Persistence.

Your belief in your ideas. Your belief that you will achieve the objective. Courage to walk on the path that you have chosen. And Persistence to follow your heart and passion even after multiple failed attempts.

So, go now, start that business venture, make that sculpture, write that bestseller, paint that masterpiece. Because, this world needs one more success story – your success story. The story to inspire and motivate others.

So go on that magical adventure called life – to become a legend, to become great, to become invincible!
